The burial of Dr.Imdad Hussain will be around 1600hrs Lahore time
The funeral service for the renowned pianist and musicologist, Dr Imdad Husain, was offered in London at a local mosque on Tuesday. Husain was the son of Professor Sirajuddin of Government College, Lahore, and Razia, a well-known painter in the decades following independence. A distinguished student at Oxford, from where he received his degrees including a doctorate, Husain left a promising academic career to serve as a diplomat under Ayub Khan for a brief period, but finally settled in his true vocation, and did considerable pioneering work in collecting the folk music of Pakistan and bringing it to the attention of the western world. Husain met with an accident about six months ago and stayed in a home for the elderly until his demise. The funeral service was attended by his colleagues from the music world and other friends and acquaintances. His friend of twenty years, the human rights activist and councillor, Mushtaq Lashari, who looked after him during his last months, accompanied his body to Lahore, where he was to buried beside his father. He was over 80 and single. |
